Coimbatore: A farmer committed suicide on his farm near Coimbatore early Thursday when he was apparently distraught by torture and abusive language allegedly used by a private finance company to fail to repay a loan, police said. In a letter purportedly written by him and collected from his home, Anandan, 30, said employees at the finance company used abusive language to delay repayment of the Rs 45 lakh loan, police said.
Anandan, who had also done plumbing work, said he was unable to repay the loan to build a house as he had become financially weak due to the COVID-19[female[feminine pandemic as agriculture and its work have been affected, they said. Holding the company and employees accountable for his extreme move, Anandan had sought to reclaim the house from the bank and save his family of a mother, wife and one-year-old child, said the police.
Based on a complaint from Anandan’s wife, police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy, they said, adding that new investigations had started.
